Founded in 1999 by John Herrmann, Bain Associates, Inc., began representing roofing manufacturers in Oregon and Southwest Washington in January of 2000. Though Siplast remains the cornerstone, the product line has evolved and will continue to do so, as we diversify within our areas of expertise and continue to work towards our commitment to high quality, high performing products. Today, we work in a range of divisions with expertise in roofing, green roofs, waterproofing, daylighting, moisture resistant gypsum for walls, leak detection and more.
Bain Associates has enjoyed steady growth every year since its inception. On January 1, 2005, Jeff Elkins joined the company as a partner, bringing 18 years of experience in the roofing business as a rep and supplier. Bain Associates now boasts over 50 years of combined experience in roofing, waterproofing and related products.

We aim to represent the best manufacturers, to learn their products and competing products, and to make accurate and reliable representations for the products we represent. As we introduce new products, we make every effort to work with architects and specifiers so they feel as confident about our products as we do. Our experience helps minimize risk in the most risky part of the construction business.

John Herrmann, Founder and President of Bain Associates, Inc., has been a leader in the commercial roofing industry since 1985. An innovative thinker and devout tinkerer, John began his career in the Pacific Northwest as an independent manufacturer’s rep, developing and introducing a “systems approach” for selling commercial roofing products in 1989. The ability to address customer’s needs form start to finish, from fasteners and insulation to coverboard and coatings, set Bain Associates apart and continues to distinguish us from the competition. In addition to leading Bain Associates, Inc., John is active in many civic and community organizations and coaches youth sports. John is married, has two sons and lives in Portland, OR.
Jeff Elkins, Vice President of Bain Associates, Inc., is a Portland native. Jeff graduated from Jesuit High School and attended the University of Oregon. He has been in the roofing industry since 1986. He entered the business as an independent manufacturer’s representative, shortly thereafter going to work in roofing distribution. He has experience with many different manufacturers, types of building materials and components. In 2005 Jeff joined John Herrmann and has been an active partner in Bain Associates, Inc., since. He has been married since 1983. He has three children who all live in the Portland area and one grandchild.
